Privacy policy

In short

Who runs the site

The solar calendar at solar.dealmobile.co.uk is run by Deal Mobile (“we”). We are the controller of the personal data described here, under UK data protection law: the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.

To contact us, open an issue on GitHub. Issues are public, so please don’t put personal details in one: ask us to get in touch privately, and we will.

What stays in your browser

The calendar remembers your choices in your browser’s local storage, so they’re there next time:

Your browser also keeps a copy of the app so that it works offline.

None of this is sent to us or anyone else. It isn’t a cookie, and it’s stored only because you made a choice that needs remembering. To remove it, use Forget my location under Sunrise and sunset, or clear this site’s data in your browser’s settings.

Your location

The calendar asks for your location only when you press Use my location, and your browser asks your permission first. You can type a place instead, or give none at all. The calendar uses it inside your browser to work out sunrise, sunset and the local time zone. It is never sent to us or anyone else.

Hosting

Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site. Like any web server, it receives your IP address, your browser’s details and the address of each page or file you ask for. It uses them to deliver the site and to protect it from attacks. Cloudflare may process this outside the UK, under its data processing terms. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.

The calendar feed and the badge are made by a small program running on Cloudflare. It keeps a log of requests to them, which can include the IP address and browser, for a few days, so that we can find and fix faults.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a site that is secure and works.

Visitor statistics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits: the pages viewed, the site that linked to us, the kind of browser and device, the country, and how quickly pages load. It uses no cookies or local storage, and Cloudflare says it doesn’t fingerprint visitors by their IP address, browser or anything else. We see only totals.

Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in knowing whether the site is used and works well.

Calendar subscriptions

If you add the calendar to Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook or another app, that service fetches the feed from its own servers from time to time. The feed’s address holds only your choice of month names, festivals and holidays, nothing about you. Add to Google Calendar opens Google’s site. Your calendar provider’s own privacy policy covers what it does.

Hearing names read aloud

The Hear it buttons use your browser’s speech. Some browsers’ voices are online services, such as Google’s voices in Chrome or Microsoft’s online voices in Edge. With those, your browser sends the name being read to that company. If you’d rather it didn’t, don’t use the Hear it buttons.

Links to other sites

Links to GitHub, Google and the sources of the month names and festivals take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or stop using it. We hold almost none: the request logs are deleted after a few days, and we can’t tell which entries are yours. To ask, contact us as above.

If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with a new date.
